Blending and tasting

We blend together several types of coffee because the quality of the coffee and its taste characteristics vary from harvest to harvest. Blending of coffee requires accuracy. Too little or too much of one particular type of coffee can ruin the right taste. The art of blending the coffee is, that the taste is the same in every single bag (for example, Friele Frokost Kaffe consists of 7 different types of coffee in a given proportion of mixture).

At Kaffehuset Friele our cupping team tastes coffee everyday at 11.30. Together they decide the proportion of mixture in the day's blend and they test new shipments of coffee that have arrived. There are no machines that can carry out the functions of the cupping team; they demand an advanced sense of taste that trough years of training can detect the smallest imperfections or deviations from the quality standards.
