Friele and Utz Certified

Kaffehuset Friele is member of Utz Certified, and has over the last year increased the volumes of purchased certfied green coffee from countries like Brazil, Guatemala, Colombia and Kenya. Today more than 30% percent of the coffee that Kaffehuset Friele purchases will be from Utz Certified approved farms. Over the next 5 years the plan is to increase the purchased certified volume of green coffee up to 100% of the Friele branded products.

Kaffehuset Friele is committed to delivering not only excellent products but also assuring that they are produced in a responsible and sustainable way. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is high on the agenda at Friele. The UTZ CERTIFIED Membership is one of several of Friele's broad-reaching CSR policies.

Being a member of the sustainable quality label UTZ CERTIFIED Good Inside allows Friele to participate in all three of the pillars of sustainability; social responsibility, environmental leadership and economic transparency.
Friele is taking its responsibility by partnering with UTZ CERTIFIED towards creating sustainable sourcing and trade by working with producers to develop long-term increases in quality, efficiencies and yields, ultimately leading to stable long-term businesses.

Vision and mission of UTZ CERTIFIED

The vision of UTZ CERTIFIED Good Inside is to achieve sustainable commodity supply chains by its mission of implementing a worldwide certification and traceability program for responsible commodity production and sourcing. UTZ CERTIFIED Good Inside, means:
· Knowing where your product comes from and how it was produced - transparency by the UTZ CERTIFIED traceability system and independent assurance of responsible production and sourcing
· Making good farmers, better businessmen - opportunities for all farmers to improve business practices to meet increasingly demanding market expectations
· Credible trust mark - allowing brands to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability

Complimentary with other programs

The world's sustainability challenges are huge and diverse: addressing systematic poverty, poor environmental practices, assurance of supply chain security, to name but a few. These challenges are too big to expect any single actor - consumers, producers, brands, NGO,s - to address them entirely on their own. We are convinced that together, through certification programs like UTZ CERTIFIED, Fair Trade, and others, we will go a long way towards lifting the whole sectors to a higher level. As we all share a common vision to achieve sustainability. The various certification programs have different, but complementary approaches. Programs like Fairtrade will appeal to consumers who explicitly choose for products which help 'poverty reduction' and Organic to those who are 'environmentally or health aware'. UTZ CERTIFIED Good Inside looks at sustainability as "good trade" by addressing responsible sourcing, developing qualities and yields, providing traceability and a transparent way to show that a better price is paid for a socially and environmentally better product. Hereby UTZ CERTIFIED reaches across all three of the pillars of sustainability: people, planet & profit. Perhaps of utmost importance for buyers in competitive markets, UTZ CERTIFIED makes this possible in an independent, credible and market oriented way.

History of Utz Certified

UTZ CERTIFIED is formerly known as Utz Kapeh (meaning "good coffee" in a Mayan language from Guatemala) and started as a partnership between growers and buyers in 2002. Since then UTZ CERTIFIED has grown to become one of the largest certification programs worldwide and is now expanding further into other commodities. More information: www.utzcertified.org
